New Release By Gary Popovich
Blablabla
a new music video, a three screen, two minute ten second, punk folk protest song
The song was inspired by a comment by activist Greta Thunberg; it was produced with Dexter Nash; live performances of the song took place across numerous landscapes in Canada and the United States; Annette Mangaard did the video recording, and I edited the video. The song is available on most streaming services. Blablabla is the first single from the forthcoming album called Halalalalula, which will be released in 2024.

“My family left Africa about 60,000 years ago. At some point, some major mass of my DNA was clustered in the Balkans, along either side of imperial faultlines and violent engagements. Both of those sides emigrated separately to Canada and found each other in the land of promise, with fields of snow. I was raised on the top floor of an r&b hotel in Niagara Falls where I played with tape recorders and projectors.” Gary Popovich
Charles Street Video Gallery exhibited five of Schmeki’s music performance videos from September 24 to October 7. On September 24 and 25 Schmeki Noamson and his band played live during the Geary Art Crawl in Toronto, two 45 minute sets each day, songs from his first record, and several new songs from an upcoming album. Schmeki has disappeared; Popovich has taken over, and that new record will be released in October…the title of that album is, tentatively, called Halalalalula.
